The Princess Telephone
“It’s little…It’s lovely…It lights!”
The Princess telephone, known for it’s light-up numbers, was first introduced by the Bell Systems in 1959. At that time, it was a small, compact telephone especially designed for easy access in the bedroom to allow for easier use while sleeping. This small and simple telephone has a long life since being designed.
During it’s long production run, The Princess went through a whole slew of significant changes to the design. Touch-tone dialing was introduced in 1963, module connectors were introduced in the 1970s, new colors and the removal of light-up keys was initiated in the early 1980s, and by the 1990s it was almost a brand new telephone.
